Les projets médicauxOffering free care is a necessity to such deprived populations. They are exposed to numerous diseases because of their quality of life, their diet and their hygiene conditions.
Prevention is also paramount and this is why Calcutta Rescue established a number of information and awareness programmes targeted at everyone or at specific groups. In the “mother-child” programme for instance women receive information on hygiene and are followed during their pregnancy and then after the birth along with the baby.
Calcutta Rescue set up 4 day clinics in different parts in the north of the town where hundreds of people come every day for help. To encourage people to come to one of the clinics they are in need of, Calcutta Rescue provides some food and money for their journey. This compensates for their lack of earnings if they were unable to work. Some patients come from districts very far away and from neighbouring towns and have to travel for hours before reaching the clinic.
The organisation is also present on the field with its mobile medical teams in the streets, the slums and the surrounding rural zones.
