Sewing trainingThis two-point programme is aimed at women. The first is for them to receive orders to work on simple cotton garments for school children and patients. The second, once they have mastered the first stage, is to move them onto the fine couture and embroidery and to produce items destined for sale by the support groups in Europe. After their training they receive basis materials and can then work at their own rhythm and at home. Once a week they bring back their work and leave with new orders. Their wages are better than those offered elsewhere. They also benefit from the healthcare and their children are schooled in one of the Calcutta Rescue’s schools. These training programmes were established in response to the demand of recovered patients and their need to find another job and an independent life back in society. Today the quality of their work provides a good source of income to the foundation and to financing other worthy projects. |
