Aurore Happy Home Foundation

Aurore’s Children’s Happy Home is an orphanage for poverty-stricken children based on the outskirts ofthe small village Vazhaithottam in the Tamil Nadu state.

The orphanage was inaugurated in 2002. At the beginning there were 20 children aged from 11 months to 15. Today there are around 80 children who find refuge here. In 2005 we inaugurated our second building -  the girls’ dormitory. Having finished their obligatory school studies 10 or so girls and boys from Happy Home went on to continue their studies at different colleges in Ooty, Mettupalayam and Coimbatore.

The inhabitants of this region are the “Adivasis”, members of the poorest tribes settled by the government and who are desperately trying to survive horrendous misery.

The staff consists of 9 womenwith virtually no resources and who look after these children with love and care. There is also the gardener, a caretaker and a driver/handyman.

R.E. Hema was employed by the foundation in July 2006 to run the place. She is responsible for looking after the children, the staff and all the administrative tasks which she does so with great competence and devotion.

Happy Home is a small association of voluntary workers who believe that their one drop in the ocean is better than none. As a charity it can only survive through donations sponsorship. For more information please visit their web site www.aurorehappyhome.ch

The Calcutta Espoir foundation looked into this orphanage very carefully and decided to give their “coup de pouce” of 10,000 Francs in November 2008.
